DIEM Home

High-quality research and teaching and an innate vocation for technology transfer: these ones are the strong points of the Department of Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics (DIEM), directed by prof. Vincenzo Auletta.

That’s DIEM! A lively and stimulating environment for creativity and innovation, which has gained a top position among Italian departments for research quality.

Teaching

Teaching is DIEM flagship!

Indeed, our two courses in Computer Engineering (undergraduate and postgraduate) have achieved the high quality European EUR-ACE certification.

More in detail, the postgraduate course in Computer Engineering has two curricula:

  • Computer Science
  • Industrial Informatics

They are designed to allow an immediate employment for our students. This goal is pursued through collaborative and experience-making teaching approaches, that are oriented to problem-solving and team-working. The students projects are developed in several research laboratories, that are equipped with cutting-edge equipment and technologies.

Finally, the agreement for an international double Master’s Degree with the prestigious School of Higher Engineering (Ensicaen) in Caen (FR) is an asset for DIEM high quality teaching. Indeed, both Italian and French students can study in both universities and are able to achieve two degrees in one shot.

Research

Research activities of DIEM cover a wide range of disciplines: from basic disciplines such as mathematics, physics and statistics, to those ones that provide specialized methods for information technologies, ranging from advanced robotics to innovative telecommunication systems, intelligent energy management, internet of things, embedded systems for automotive and bioinformatics and several applications of artificial intelligence and computer vision.

Finally, the international vocation of DIEM has allowed the birth of several scientific collaborations with the most prestigious European and US research groups. Indeed, our laboratories regularly host internationally renowned scientists and visiting professors, and several DIEM professors officially teach in prestigious universities in US and Europe.
