The Research Area of Computer Engineering (s.s.d. ING-INF/05) has been conducting basic and applied research for over 20 years in the fields of Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Evolutionary Computation, Neurocomputational Models of Learning, Decision Support Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Embedded Systems, and Cybersecurity.

Specifically, the main theoretical and methodological contributions include:

  • Algorithms for graph matching
  • Techniques for combining classification systems
  • Speciation mechanisms in evolutionary algorithms
  • Neurocomputational models of neural circuits
  • Methods and techniques for Situation Awareness and decision-making support processes

Teaching Activities

The group’s teaching activities are mainly focused on the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Computer Engineering and Computer Engineering for Digital Medicine. Specifically, the teaching offering covers subjects in the software development domain, with a focus on fundamentals of computer science, object-oriented programming, programming of web, network, and distributed applications, software engineering, algorithms and data structures, logic networks, semantic technologies, databases, embedded systems, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence.
